Resilient

Bob Duggan talks about “Core Practices” in his book Resilient Leadership 2.0 to stay calm and clarity in anxious times.

Among others, here you are my top 5:
· “Get on the balcony” Get a complete overview of what is taking place around you.
· “Cultivate a curious mind-set” Curiosity and anxiety are antithetical. As you seek answers, knowledge about your co-workers and their processes your anxiety diminishes.
· “Be separate yet stay connected” Never keep a cold distance from your co-workers, but don’t push for unnecessary intimacy. Seek a healthy emotional balance.
· “Email mindfully” You can’t retract a sent email. Before you hit send, carefully consider its content and wording and how the recipient will likely react. Consider your mood at the moment: Are you reactive? Unaware? Not centered? If you feel calm, and believe that the email represents your best thoughts on an issue and will not irritate the recipient, send it.
· “Hit the pause button before ‘triangling’” When it comes to difficult situations, don’t involve a third party without thinking everything through carefully first.

Resilient leaders should integrate these principles into their day-to-day activities, don’t you think?
