I’m ending a workweek in which I had opportunities to share insights in different 🖥 Zoom meetings with colleagues. Honestly talking, one of the tasks I love the most in my day-job 😜

📌 Here you are some tips adapted from Winston that I -usually- have in mind when I have to deliver a talk:

💥 DO NOT START WITH A JOKE (let’s leave it for last). I love the sense of humor, but I try not to start making jokes at the beginning, especially if the conference is not given in my mother tongue.
🤓PROMISE – Tell them what they gonna learn at the end of your talk.
🤔ASK YOURSELF: how much does my audience already know about my topic? If you can tailor what you say specifically to your listeners, you’ll maximize your impact..
‼️HOW TO INSPIRE YOUR audiences? Show your PASSION ❤️for the topic. Clarify for yourself how it’s helped you in your work or life, and what value it holds for others. The problem with passion and enthusiasm is it causes you to speak faster 🏃🏻. Deliberately practice SLOWING DOWN WHEN YOU SPEAK. If you find you’re speaking too fast, try taking more pauses when you speak.
♻️ CYCLE – make your idea repeated many times (at least 3) in order to be completely clear for everyone.
⁉️ ASK QUESTIONS. Question has to be not so difficult that it can’t be answered, not so easy that the audience feels insulted. HOLD ON THE SILENCE🤫, but no more than 7️⃣ seconds.
🧑🏻‍💻THE PLACE SHOULD be seen and checked before the lecture. If the place is “virtual”, you have to be very familiar with the tool. Practice, practice, practice.
✌🏻KEEP YOUR HANDS BUSY. Watch your hands! Don’t hold them behind your back, it’s better to keep them straight, hold a pen or use for pointing at the board.
🤬DON’T PUT TOO MANY WORDS ON A SLIDE. Slides should just reflect what you’re saying, not the other way around. Pictures attracts attention and people start to wait for your explanation🤨. Use of “AIR” in the slides is a key resource for me.
😂 ENDING A TALK WITH A JOKE would people think they have had fun all the time.
